Armed And Sort Of Dangerous

Today we sat down as a family to watch “Hot Pursuit”, a new crime comedy film from director Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal”, “27 Dresses”)

Rose Cooper (Reese Witherspoon – “This Means War”, “Devil’s Knot”) is an officer for the San Antonio police department. Having grown up idolising her policeman father she is desperate to be a good cop but is rather too intense to have a successful personal life.

Having been stuck in the station after an unfortunate incident involving the mayor’s son and a taser she jumps at the chance when one day Captain Emmett (John Carroll Lynch – “Crazy Stupid Love”, “Shutter Island”) tells her that she is to accompany a detective to escort an informant and his wife safely to enable them to testify against crime boss Vincente Cortez (Joaquín Cosio – “Quantum Of Solace”, “Savages”).

Arriving at the couple’s home, Cooper goes upstairs to assist Mrs. Daniella Riva (Sofia Vergara – “Wild Card”, “Fading Gigolo”) while Detective Jackson (Richard T. Jones – “Vantage Point”, “Godzilla”) looks after her husband Felipe (Vincent Laresca – “Lakeview Terrace”).

Masked hit men storm into the house and during a shoot-out both Jackson and Mr. Riva are killed. Cooper manages to escape with Mrs. Riva and call the station requesting backup. When two detectives arrive much sooner than they should be able to Cooper realises that she and Mrs. Riva are still in danger.

Having managed to escape again the pair discover that they are being reported in the media as fugitives and that Cooper will have her work cut out getting the somewhat reluctant Mrs. Riva safely to court to testify against Cortez…

The reviews for this film have been largely negative from what I can see, which is a real shame. It’s not likely to go down in history as a comedy classic, but Witherspoon and Vergara work really well together and make the movie a fun hour and a half of comedic entertainment and is definitely worth checking out…
